A PROPULSIVE NARRATIVE OF ESCAPE AND CHANGE
===========================================
The Dead Zoo’s new single is a guitar fuelled rocker that depicts a propulsive narrative of escape and change. Similar to previous single “In The End”, it’s about seeking that unknown place where you can find yourself, but rather than that song’s serene feel of sailing away, this paints a visceral sense of hitting the road, outside of the law, grit and all.
Singer and guitarist Kaoru says the song was driven by a conviction that “when trapped and lost, making a bold move to escape that reality regardless of the destination is sometimes necessary.
“Of course, in my case the drive to move on emerges most strongly from my gender transition, and is particularly relevant as trans people are currently being ‘monstered’ daily in an unprecedented attack by all sides of the establishment, society and the mass media. The lawless mentality embraced by the lyric’s narrator fits well with that sense of being outside the bounds of a ‘normal' world that seeks to cancel you and all those like you.”
Joint lead vocalist Somrata, who also contributes a searing textural synth lead to counterpoint the buzzsawing guitars, adds “that narrative is universal. The prevailing forces of populism and conservatism are those that are being fought by those they seek to keep under control. The song is all about that sense of finding our freedoms and enjoying that getaway drive in the process. It’s very Thelma and Louise.”
Bassist Gabby: “It’s really fun to play. We’ve been doing this song live for a while now and it really motors. There was a feeling this year that we wanted to change our sound to something a bit more raw that would also get people moving and this is the first release that we feel does that.”
Drummer Jon concludes “We have a lot of new songs that are also driven by that new and beat driven rawness, mixing guitars and electronics in a free wheeling way. It’s fun to play and we can’t wait to unleash them live.”
'Do Clean / Do Dirrrty’ is released on all digital platforms on August 10th 2022, backed with monstrous psych stomper ‘Siluett’.

Really enjoyed this album. A neat mix of The Cure with vocals from the Cranberries. With a little shoe gaze thrown in for good measure. A very pleasing mix that is worth the time. Favorite Track: Jonatan Lagnar
